Word of the Month: Strength

Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts has adapted a new “habit” to instill and recognize in classes daily. Each month, there is a “word of the month” chosen by instructors that will be a focus for the fundamentals of each martial arts class. It is discussed in basic training; and more in depth in leadership programs. Each word of the month focuses on self growth and fills students with the mental benefits martial arts sets forth.

Yesterday, kicked off a new month and therefore a new word for the instructors and students at Tri State. Strength.

True strength is having the ability to understand and utilize all forms of strength; physical, mental, emotional and put them together as one.

While some look at the word strength and see strength being majority physical, it is so important to build mental strength. Amy Morin, author of “13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do” provides three reasons you should make building mental strength a priority:

  1. Greater Life Satisfaction
  2. Enhanced Performance
  3. Increased Resilience

Without further explanation, I am sure you can see why mental strength has so many benefits to each and every one of us.

So, what are your strengths? How can you improve? Physically? Mentally? Emotionally?  Show us your strength.

Virtual Testing at Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts

Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts has gone virtual. Since the mandated shut down that began on March 17, 2020, Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts immediately began running off a modified virtual schedule. Students have the opportunity to train live where they can participate, ask questions, and instructors can see you and give feedback (all from your living room). In addition, all the classes are recorded and available to students.

Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts has found a solution to every problem to best serve their students. When quarterly children’s belt promotion graduation was forced to be canceled, Tri State offered COVID-19 CDC complaint pick up’s which allowed parents and students to pick up their new martial arts belts. In addition, instructors including owner and operator, Jeff Jones delivered dozens of belts to students homes all across the Lower Bucks county area.

Tri State offered a virtual opportunity for their Adult Fundamentals class, where students who were eligible for promotion were able to test on the zoom platform.

As of most recent, Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Art’s Children’s program was due for stripe testing, the first testing opportunity since receiving their new belts.  Instructors connect with the students 1:1 during their allotted testing time for this unique opportunity.

“Thanks for working out the virtual testing. Desmond running out of his room to tell his dad and little brother about his green stripe just made everyone’s day here… Thank you for that.” one parent exclaimed.

Although the majority of stripe testing was executed last week, some testing still continues into this week.

“Our goal is to keep all of our students on track, not only with their martial arts training, but in life. This is a time where it’s very easy to fall into unfavorable habits. We strive to keep our students and their habits positive,” owner Jeff Jones states.

If you think Martial Arts could be beneficial to you, Tri State is offering TWO FREE WEEKS of virtual classes. Click here for more information.

Kobe Bryant

THE LATE AND GREAT KOBE BRYANT CREDITS MARTIAL ARTS FOR HIS MAMBA MENTALITY

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant was one of many professional athletes that found cross-training in Martial Arts extremely beneficially for their career. Kobe Bryant in fact trained in Bruce Lee’s art of Jeet Kune Do and admired Bruce Lee. […Bruce Lee’s poetic approach to martial arts is one of the countless reasons his legacy lives on to this day – but his philosophies are not just constrained to Hong Kong people, as five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant would attest to. “The one thing – among many – that I have learned from Bruce’s philosophy of Jeet Kune Do is being able to adapt,” Kobe tells the Post. “It’s about having the fundamental skills available so that you can react to any situation. Bruce Lee was always one of my muses growing up. I’ve read everything he’s ever written; I’ve watched every film he’s ever been in, and I’ve watched pretty much every interview he’s ever done. He was really big on sharing his knowledge and hoped he could inspire. Not to learn how to fight, but through the art of fighting, learn how to be a better person. That’s what I want to pass on to the future generations.” …] Kobe Bryant was an inspiration to all both on and off the court, and he has left behind a truly remarkable legacy.

Leadership students at ERA Food Pantry

Community Leadership at work

Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts Leadership students recently hosted a food drive in efforts to learn more about the importance of being leaders in their community.

In addition, the students planned and executed a Parents Night Out event open to the public, where attendees brought nonperishable items for their admission.

With the support of family, friends, and the rest of the Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts community – they were able to donate 1,008.1 pounds of food to Emergency Relief Association (ERA) food pantry, locally located in Levittown, Pennsylvania.

The pantry sees a dramatic drop in donations following the holiday season, specifically January and February.

Thank you to everyone who donated.

Last week, the Leadership class personally dropped off their food donation and had the opportunity to learn more about the importance of their efforts. ERA food pantry, who has been serving the Lower Bucks County Community since 1969, serves approximately 50 families in need weekly.

Tri State’s Leadership program is a group of students who have set the goal for Black Belt and Beyond, and who have made the commitment to become leaders in the community and learn to possess qualities to do so.

We are so proud of our leadership students and their efforts to make a difference.

“A BLACK BELT IS A WHITE BELT THAT NEVER QUITS!”

Sifu Jeff Jones
