Kids Virtual Martial Arts Class

Supporting Our Children During COVID-19

Unlike adults, children seem to be less vulnerable to the immediate effects of coronavirus, with fewer cases in children leaving them off the “high-risk” list. Though not effected directly [health wise] the corona virus can have a long lasting impact on our children today.

“The worldwide closure of schools has no historical precedent. 188 countries have imposed country-wide closures, affecting more than 1.5 billion children and youth.” [ARTICLE HERE]

Some without internet access or technology, leaving the already challenging “distance learning” to be next to impossible.

Children can experience stress due to parent struggles, loss of jobs, fear of virus spread, the list goes on.

It is so important to support our children during the coronavirus crisis.

The Child Mind Institute includes tips like

  • Keeping routines in place
  • Being creative about new activities – and exercise
  • Staying in touch virtually

Our continued goal at Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts to help our students “come out of quarantine better.” I continuously voice this to both our children and adults almost every class. We want to have better eating habits, better sleeping habits, exercise more as opposed to less. Less electronics and games, more positive healthy habits.

Consistency with martial arts training is an important aspect of maintaining those healthy habits. Martial Arts has many positive mental benefits to offer these children (and adults), when they need it most.

They can-

  • maintain a social interaction with their instructors and fellow classmates
  • rely on martial arts as an energy release
  • improve focus and concentration
  • use martial arts as an outlet for stressors and anxiety
  • expand their confidence
  • stay on track on their road to black belt and beyond

Though I know virtual classes do not compare to in house training, it has been a phenomenal way to keep up with our training and seeing all our students during this historic difficult time. As always, I thank each and every one of our students, families, and staff for their continued support.

“A BLACK BELT IS A WHITE BELT THAT NEVER QUITS”

Children’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Grappling Tournament

Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts recently had nine students compete in the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) Tournament on January 25, 2020 in Broomall, Pennsylvania at the Marple Sports Arena .

This event is annually Pennsylvania’s largest children’s grappling tournament state wide.

Our partcipating Tri State students, in addition to their regular Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes, attend a children’s competition class on Saturday mornings. For many, it was their first time competing in a grappling tournament. Our competitors earned seven first place wins in addition to multiple second places standings.

Participants include: Ryan Stadler, Kristian Warywoda, Isabella Rapciewicz, Collin Cianci, Takeo Dawson, Aidan Goodman, Elliot Fields, Ethan Ayala, and Alex Fields.

We are so proud of all our students who competed.

Both our children’s and adult’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes are affiliated with the world re-owned G-13 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program, founded by Master Roberto Godoi.

The courage and confidence in our students is astonishing. We look forward to more competitions and watching our students grow in both our Mixed Martial Arts programs as well as our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program.

A Black Belt is a White Belt that never quits!

Improve Your Child’s Self-Confidence with Karate

Karate is an ancient Japanese martial arts form that became popular worldwide during the 1960s, and today for the vast majority of non-martial artists, “karate” is synonymous with “martial arts.” It continues to be a popular discipline across the globe, especially among children and adolescents. Unlike some styles, karate is easy to teach and learn in segments that are age and fitness level appropriate. It’s also a powerful way to guide your kids into becoming confident, caring, and capable individuals.

Karate to boost self-confidence

Self-confidence is the ability to trust yourself and your abilities. For that, you need to first know what you are capable of physically, mentally, and emotionally. To know this, it is essential that you push your limits on a regular basis to see how much you can take. Pushing yourself just a little bit more each workout is the key to extending and expanding your capabilities over time. Since karate and some related martial art forms are essentially about self-improvement of mind, body, and spirit, training is a natural, reliable, and enjoyable way to gain self-confidence.

You can train your kids to practice pushing their limits from a young age, so they learn to give their best in every life situation. Get them started young, in their pre-school years if possible, to reap maximum benefits of karate. These early, formative years are important times for developing bodies and minds. Parents appreciate the physical fitness, good manners, and new friendships formed by their children being in karate.

Karate involves progression from one level to the next, each level corresponding to various
belt colors going from white to black. Each successive rank includes a number of simple and complex moves that must be learned and properly performed, with tests to be passed, to be graduated in rank and belt color. Classes also include free sparring in protective safety gear with peers and seniors to develop students’ self-defense skills.

Karate classes can help children know themselves better and build their self-confidence in many ways.

  • Passing a skill test gives a sense of accomplishment.
  • Sparring develops and tests strategy, speed, agility, and endurance.
  • Praise and positive feedback – and continual progress in the martial arts skills, visible in
each student’s moves and techniques over time – are motivating results!
  • Getting to the next level and belt color can be a major milestone.
  • It can be a major tool against bullying, helping your kids defend themselves and be safe.

Knowing themselves and improving their abilities give your children the priceless gifts of self- confidence and self-reliance. They learn to have positive attitudes, goals, patience, and other virtues that are especially helpful when trying new things, dealing with problems and setbacks, and facing life’s challenges head-on.

Other benefits of learning karate

The fun practice of karate offers even more benefits to both children and adults who participate regularly. It can teach them many skills and instill leadership traits, in addition to improving their self-confidence.

  • Discipline
  • Physical fitness
  • Social skills
  • Respect
  • Listening
  • Self-esteem

Giving kids the opportunity to learn karate, or any martial arts form, might be the most formative, beneficial, and enduring gift you can give your child besides your love and care. Training, learning, winning, losing, and trying again through the interesting and motivating practice of karate will help them develop good habits and self-confidence. This often results in young people becoming positive, strong, responsible, and confident adults who are ready to take on life as leaders.

Learn Martial Arts to Build your Self-Confidence

More and more people are discovering martial arts therapy used to treat and even cure some disorders relating to body and mind. In one research study, an Israeli Judo Champion-turned- academic taught a modified form of Judo to visually, mentally, and physically-impaired people. As a result of these rigorous practices, the people showed nominal improvement in a variety
of abilities. If martial art is powerful enough to bring raising the bar for disabled persons, the possibilities for completely healthy, fully functional persons are even greater.

Why martial art is a better confident builder than any sport

Just about any rigorous sport or activity can improve your physical and mental fitness and in turn your level of confidence. But martial arts have been proven to give great results more consistently and in a variety of aspects. Why is it so?

First, martial art is an individual endeavor (though training in a class of fellow students is the norm); individual results are based on your individual effort, unlike in team sports where reliance upon others is often paramount.

Second, martial art training is empirically structured, i.e. the level of difficulty rises as you progress, meaning the challenges increase in complexity and requirements. As you achieve each new level, you experience accomplishment that increases your self-confidence. The prestige and self-respect you earn with each belt color is very satisfying and self-motivating.

The controlled environment and structure of martial arts pave way for a better physique, posture, stance, and body language. These very visible, tangible effects reduce the instances and severity of perceptions that cause self-doubt and low self-esteem. Once you start seeing results, there is no turning back!

Gaining confidence through martial arts

It is said that every time we face fear, we gain confidence and courage. The same way, you involuntarily attain a little more courage and confidence every time you practice martial arts. Every time you free spar or compete in a tournament, you either win and boost self-image or you lose and learn a new lesson. The moment the match begins, you forget everything else in your life and focus only on giving your best.

Martial arts training entails more than learning vigorous strikes, kicks, and blocks to improve your physical self. Much training deals with sharpening the abilities of your mind. Many martial art styles feature elements of philosophical and intellectual pursuit, such as meditation, balance, breathing, listening skills, and sometimes the warrior ethos. These concepts are instrumental
in bringing clarity to your mind. It is said that the combat techniques are the most effective
only when you are able to connect your mind to your body. Many expert martial artists are so observant and quick-thinking that they can actually predict an opponent”â„¢s next move, giving them better chances of evading, countering, and ultimately winning the contest unharmed.

Practicing martial arts gives you a fit body and clear mind, which in turn leverages your confidence level. The only way to verify this claim is to experience the benefits for yourself. The life-changing effects will make you a true believer and advocate for this wholesome, healthful, enjoyable activity and lifestyle.
