Word of the Month: Strength

Tri State Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts has adapted a new “habit” to instill and recognize in classes daily. Each month, there is a “word of the month” chosen by instructors that will be a focus for the fundamentals of each martial arts class. It is discussed in basic training; and more in depth in leadership programs. Each word of the month focuses on self growth and fills students with the mental benefits martial arts sets forth.

Yesterday, kicked off a new month and therefore a new word for the instructors and students at Tri State. Strength.

True strength is having the ability to understand and utilize all forms of strength; physical, mental, emotional and put them together as one.

While some look at the word strength and see strength being majority physical, it is so important to build mental strength. Amy Morin, author of “13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do” provides three reasons you should make building mental strength a priority:

  1. Greater Life Satisfaction
  2. Enhanced Performance
  3. Increased Resilience

Without further explanation, I am sure you can see why mental strength has so many benefits to each and every one of us.

About Sifu Jeffrey Jones: Jeffrey has earned full instructorship under Guro Dan Inosanto in Jeet Kune Do, Jun Fan Gung Fu, and Filipino Martial Arts. He is also a full instructor for the Thai Boxing Association of the United States of America, under Ajarn Chai Sirisute. His instructor, Guro Dan Inosanto is one of three people appointed to teach at one of the Jun Fan Institutes under Bruce Lee.
